Picture of the Day
| The Duomo, Florence, Italy -- October, 2011 |
Another day of huffing and puffing, though, with a very different scene. Florence is known for many things, but probably its most identifying is its massive cathedral with it massive dome. Seriously, it's hard to tell when you standing in front of it (or in it, as is the case here), but when you get to a viewing point in the hills above the city, 'the Duomo' really trumps all of the other buildings. By far. And we were all over it. Down beneath the church we walked through the original foundations. On the main floor, we strolled through the vast, open cathedral, on stone floors, passed pillars, looking up at the massive, painted dome. Then, we went up. Hundreds of stairs. Inside the dome. Through the dome. To the very top. One never knows what frightening creatures may be hiding in the bowels of such an old building. Don't worry, though. I'm sure I scared them away with my Fierce Claws Stance.
